The QuakeAlert app alerts you that an earthquake has occurred and sends a push alert to your mobile device. Warning times can range from 10 to 60+ seconds depending on the location, depth, and magnitude of the earthquake’s epicenter.
The customer wanted to save human lives by warning them about the incoming earthquake. The main challenge on the project was that the previous iOS application had outdated code, which took a lot of time and effort to update.
iOS application had already existed at that point. The team assessed the feasibility of re-writing the outdated code from the ground up or update and maintain / re-skin the application. The team ended up deciding to re-design and maintain the old codebase. Android application was designed and it was decided to have it match the iOS application logic.
